It’s alleged that controversial singer Chris Brown (23) assaulted openly-gay fellow R&B star Frank Ocean (25) outside a recording studio in West Hollywood on Sunday.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department confirmed that “Chris Brown and the victim were involved in an altercation over a parking space.
“The altercation allegedly led to Chris Brown punching the victim,” said police.
The two men’s entourages were apparently also involved in a brief tussle but the incident was over by the time police arrived.
While the authorities did not say who the victim was, it’s widely reported to have been Ocean, who caused waves in the music industry when he revealed in July last year that his first love was a man.
Taking to social media after the incident, Ocean tweeted: “got jumped by chris and a couple guys. lol.” He later added “cut my finger now I can’t play w two hands at the grammys”.
The two men have had run-ins in the past. In July last year, when asked by a reporter in Cannes about Ocean, Brown – who has been dogged by a homophobic reputation – allegedly responded: “Man, no homo!” He later tweeted: “My Opinion on the whole Frank Ocean subject is ……… Love who u wanna love. It’s ur decision.”
The latest incident of violence does nothing to help Brown’s image, which was shattered when he beat pop star and on-off girlfriend Rihanna in February 2009, shortly before that year’s Grammy Awards. He has also been implicated in other violent incidents.
Both Ocean and Brown have been nominated for Grammy Awards this year. It has not been confirmed if either of them will be performing at the awards ceremony on February 10.
The Los Angeles Police are continuing their investigation into Sunday’s altercation.
