Missed opportunity: Ben Cohen and Robin Windsor
Retired English rugby hunk and gay ally Ben Cohen apparently wanted to pair up with a male dance partner for his current stint on Strictly Come Dancing.
The Mirror reported that one of the show’s male professional dancers, Robin Windsor, confirmed that Cohen had told him: “I hope they put me with you.”
Sadly, it was not to be. Instead, Cohen was paired with Kristina Rihanoff as his female partner on the show.
Cohen confirmed: “I’ve no qualms dancing with a woman or a man,” adding however, that “Kristina will be easier to pick up though.”
The 34-year-old also admitted that “I like to break down stereotypes”.
The equally sexy Windsor said that he was a big fan of the burly stud: “He’s amazing, the things he has done for the gay community. I adore him.”
In 2011, after 15 years of playing rugby and 57 caps for his country and 31 tries, Cohen announced that he was retiring from sport to focus on campaigning against bullying and homophobia.
His Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation supports organisations, programs and people that advance equality for the LGBT community and help at-risk youth by standing up against bullying.
Cohen, who developed a strong gay following over the years thanks to his ‘bear’ good looks and gay-friendly stance, is married to Abby Cohen. They have twin daughters, Harriette and Isabelle.
