PARALYSED GAY GYMNAST IMPROVES
An openly gay American gymnast who was paralysed following a tragic training accident is said to be steadily improving.
Kalon Ludvigson is the USA’s most decorated Trampoline and Tumbling athlete ever; having won 20 World Cup and World Championships Medals, two World Records and eight Consecutive USA National Titles.
In August, during a training session, he had an accident that seriously damaged his spine and has left him paralysed in his lower extremities.
According to a recent report by USA Gymnastics, he is steadily recovering and now has “movement of his upper extremities, as well as improving sensation of upper and lower extremities”.
He is not yet able to move his legs and is undergoing therapy “with the goal to further improve his fine motor skills of his upper extremities”.
“I want to thank everyone for the love and support they have shown during this difficult time,” said Ludvigson. “The messages, thoughts and prayers mean so much and is so appreciated.”
“We realise Kalon’s friends and teammates want to know his long- and short-term prognosis,” said Dr. George Drew, USA Gymnastics trampoline and tumbling team physician.
“These types of injuries are extremely variable, both in the amount of recovery and the time required to do so. Kalon is in excellent physical condition and is blessed with the support of his friends and family to take this recovery to its best possible result.”
The costs of his recovery are mounting and a fundraising campaign has been launched here to help the young athlete. Messages of support can also be posted on his Facebook page here.
