GAY SHOW FALTERS AS ELLEN’S LESBIAN COMEDY STEPS IN
While one American gay themed sitcom was cancelled this week, another, about a lesbian mom, produced by Ellen DeGeneres, is moving forward.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed on Tuesday that the NBC network has ordered a pilot episode for the new television show, One Big Happy.
The comedy, executive produced by the openly lesbian comedienne and talk show host, is about a lesbian who gets pregnant just as her straight male best friend meets and marries the love of his life.
Liz Feldman, the openly lesbian writer behind the popular series 2 Broke Girls, will be responsible for the script. Based on the success of the pilot, NBC will decide whether or not to order a full series.
The announcement comes just as NBC cancelled its gay themed Sean Saves the World, headed by former Will & Grace star Sean Hayes.
The show, which has been screened on the M-Net Series Showcase channel in South Africa, only managed 12 episodes before being chopped after it failed to find a large enough audience.
In response to the news, Hayes tweeted: “Thanks to @SeanSavesWorld actors & crew & @NBC for a wonderful opportunity. Looking forward to Obama’s minimum wage increase to $10/hr.”
Hey guys
I was just wondering if it is still necessary to refer to GLBTI folk as ‘openly’ lesbian/gay/queer?
Hi Malan, it’s a widely followed principle to use “openly gay” to indicate that the person in question is out and is okay to be identified as being gay. We agree it can be a bit problematic and will continue to review this. – Ed
Agree with you. It has been bothering me for quite some time. And this on an ‘openly gay’ website nogal.
