Watch: Nakhane Touré and Somizi wow at Idols final
Idols South Africa judge Somizi Mhlongo collaborated with rising star Nakhane Touré for a high energy performance on Sunday’s Season 11 final show.
Mhlongo, who’s best known for his talents as a choreographer, provided the dance moves and some vocals to Touré’s singing on the hit track We Dance Again, produced by Black Coffee.
The multi-talented, SAMA-winning Touré is not only a singer and songwriter but recently released his début novel, Piggy Boy’s Blues. He’s also a finalist in the Mambaonline Sexiest Man of the Year Survey, brought to you by WeTheBrave.co.za (click here to vote).
We love that the two openly-gay South African stars worked together to strut their stuff on one of the country’s most watched shows, which also featured performances by Judith Sephuma and MiCasa.
Twenty-four-year-old Karabo Mogane from Mbombela was announced the winner of the singing contest. The former Stellenbosch student secured the lion’s share of the more than 16 million votes cast for him and runner-up Mmatema Moremi (23) from Limpopo in the past week.
Not only did the final two smash all previous weekly voting records; this season also made Idols SA history with an astonishing grand total of 78.8 million votes, surpassing last season’s previous record of 24.3 million.
This year’s Idols also broke new ground by featuring the first-ever drag contestant Shenay O’Brien, who sang her way into the women’s top 16.
