The final day of WorldPride Amsterdam 2026 saw thousands take to the streets of the Dutch capital on Saturday, 8 August, for a vibrant celebration of LGBTQIA+ visibility, solidarity and resistance.
Starting at Martin Luther King Park, the march brought together people from across the world — including visitors, migrants and refugees from Africa and beyond — in a powerful show of support for human rights and equality for all.
The march also marked 25 years of marriage equality in the Netherlands, which became the first country in the world to open civil marriage to same-sex couples in 2001.
Along the route, residents, shopkeepers and passers-by cheered on the colourful procession from the streets, windows and balconies.
The march concluded at Museumplein, home to the Pride Village and concert stage. There, marchers encountered the sobering sight of flags representing the more than 60 countries where homosexuality or LGBTQ+ identities remain criminalised. The display formed part of the Zero Flags Project, which highlights the countries where LGBTQ+ people continue to face criminalisation.
The day reached its climax with a concert and the historic handover of the WorldPride mantle to Cape Town, which will host WorldPride in 2028 — the first edition of the global event to take place in Africa.
