CT PINK MEMORIAL FOR MADIBA

cape_town_gay_community_to_honour_nelson_mandelaCape Town’s gay community will have an opportunity to honour the late Nelson Mandela at a candlelight memorial this evening in Greenpoint.

Zackie Achmat will speak at the event with a personal tribute to Madiba. Opening prayers will be by Imam Mushin Hendricks and Beulah from the Good Hope Community Church.

Local artists Odidi and Heather Mac will perform a selection of music dedicated to Nelson Mandela.

“Join us in thanking Tata for liberating our community” said the organisers of the event.

It was thanks to Madiba’s leadership that South Africa became the first country in the world to enshrine the protection of sexual minorities from discrimination in its Constitution.

This led to full equality under the law and South Africa leading the world in legalising same-sex marriage.

The Pink Memorial takes place at 40 Somerset Road, Greenpoint, Cape Town, from 6pm on Monday 09 December.

You are urged to bring pink flowers, candles, ribbons and other pink tributes.
