Coke Kate’s career on the rise
Contrary to expectations, Kate Moss’ drug scandal may not have harmed her career after all. Reports say that Moss, who was out in South Africa recently to shoot a Rimmel (that’s a cosmetic company to you) commercial is doing quite nicely, thank you very much. While a number of labels hypocritically dropped the cocaine chic model after pictures of her snorting coke were published, she has since landed a whole stack of new contracts (Virgin Mobile included), while keeping deals with among other, Yves Saint Laurent and Roberto Cavalli. She’s also just made the cover of French Vogue, under the headline of “Scandalous Beauty”, this week, which features four glamorous black and white cover shot variations. It’s actually her third major cover since the scandal broke, plus gracing the front of the 2006 Pirelli Calendar. Not too shabby for a has-been.
Britney and Kevin’s not so wedded bliss…
Could Britney Spears and Kevin Federline be the next celeb couple to split? Persistent reports say that the marriage is on the rocks. Last week it was reported that Kevin was thrown out of the couple’s Malibu home after allegedly bringing a dope-smoking party pal to the house. She apparently also had his Ferrari towed away. Britney who recently gave birth to two-month-old, Sean Preston, is not impressed at the rate of Kevin’s money spending (including reportedly blowing $1million on an ill-fated attempt at recording music). Reports say that Britney’s mother, Lynne Spears, is all for the marriage to end. She apparently ‘hates’ Kevin.
Charlize to be next Bond girl?
British director Martin Campbell, who is set to direct the next James Bond film, Casino Royale, has named our own Charlize Theron as his first choice for the film’s leading lady alongside new Bond Daniel Craig. No word if there’s a deal in the pipeline or if Charlize is even interested, but some are already acting as if it’s a fait accompli. The last bond girl was Halle Berry, with her memorable turn as American spy Jinx. Madonna also played a cameo Bond girl, while others have included Teri Hatcher, Honor Blackman, Britt Ekland and Ursula Andress, Few have actually gone on to sustain an acting career of note. Charlize may be tempted by the offer; her last two films – including the sci-fi actioner Aeon Flux – have been flops at the box office in the US. Agg, shame.
Nicole Ritchie calls off engagement
Following the footsteps of former best bud, Paris Hilton (who broke up with her own fiancé Paris Latsis in October), Nicole Ritchie has ended her nine-month long engagement to DJ fiancé, Adam Goldstein. The tragic news was confirmed by Richie’s publicist. No details yet on what led to the break, but we’re sure to find out soon enough. Now that the feuding girls are single again, they can focus on shooting the next series of The Simple Life early next year. Since they’re still not talking, sources say that their respective scenes will be shot separately. The concept is that they will each take turns on a weekly basis to play “wife” within a different family. ‘Simple Wife Swap’ anyone?
Nicole Kidman engaged?
While one Nicole ends her engagements another may be about to announce hers. Nicole Kidman could well be engaged to hunky US Country Singer Keith Urban. While there’s no official word from the dating couple, Nicole’s sister, Antonia, sort-of-unofficially confirmed that they to are set to tie the knot at some point. Caught off guard in an interview when asked about the engagement ‘news’, she answered “Yes, yeah…”, and then fumbled with, “I mean, ah, I guess, ah, no, I don’t know.” Oops!
Brad plays dad…
It’s becominmg harder and harder for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to continue to deny their romance. Mr Pitt has filed for adoption rights to Jolie’s two children, According to the actor’s publicist “We are confirming that Brad Pitt is in the process of becoming the adoptive father of both children.” If the bid succeeds, four-year-old Maddox and baby Zahara’s surnames will change to Jolie-Pitt. Specualtion abounds that a wedding may take place this month.
While Jennifer fumes
According to Grazia magazine, Jennifer Aniston recently burnt the wedding dress with which she married ex-husband Brad Pitt. While on the surface it has oddly disturbing undertones, apparently it was part of a ceremony that took place at her Malibu beach home with friends and bottles of champagne. She also burnt letters and other items related to the relationship. Jennifer’s has also been busy in court; she’s suing a paparazzi photographer who used a telephoto lens to photograph her topless while she was in her home. The legal papers claim that he invaded her privacy “from a great distance through invasive, intrusive and unlawful measures.” She’s tying to stop the sale and publishing of the images, plus demanding a little cash for all her trouble.
Elton’s wedding fit for a queen
Following the legalisation of same-sex partnerships in Britain, legendary pop-singer Elton John will be ‘marrying’ long term partner David Furnish in Windsor. That’s where Prince Charles married Camilla Parker Bowles in April. The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead officially announced this week that the celebrity couple would formalise their 12-year relationship on December 21 at Guildhall. While Elton has stated that he wants a small private ceremony, numerous fans are expected to make their way to the event. 58 year old Elton was previously married to a woman (gasp), Renate Blauel, in the eighties but they divorced after four years. Rumours are circulating that the couple will be hosting a post-marriage bash in Cape Town in late December or January to celebrate. Serious A-listers may apply.
ABBA nixes reunion (again)
Swedish 20th century supergroup ABBA continue to defy fans by refusing to re-group. According to Bjorn Ulvaeus, one of the band’s members, a new box-set compilation of the band’s hits will be their last commercial release, and the band will never reform he told the BBC. “Why should we do a Rolling Stones or a Queen?” he asked in the interview. ABBA have been in the news, and on the airwaves, again after Madonna used a sample from their hit Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! in her smash single Hung up. “I see that as a tribute,” he said. “We have loads of offers like that but we never say yes, but in this case it was so cleverly done,” he added. The band has sold more that 100 million records around the world.
