GAY WEDDINGS KICK OFF IN CONNECTICUT

Advertorial

While same-sex marriage has been recently banned in a number of US states, Connecticut began to issue same-sex marriage licenses on Wednesday.

Jody Mock and Elizabeth Kerrigan, one of the eight couples that instituted the court action that led to the legalising of gay marriage in the state, were among the first to tie the knot.

Last month the Connecticut Supreme Court ruled that civil unions were not sufficient in terms of ensuring equality under the state’s constitution and that gays and lesbians should be granted full marriage rights.

Connecticut now joins Massachusetts as the only two states in the US to allow same-sex marriage.

Earlier this month, voters in California, Arizona and Florida chose to constitutionally bar same-sex marriage in their states.
