Rapper 50 Cent is under fire for dubbing the now-cancelled combined Kanye West and Lady Gaga tour “the Gay Tour”.

He made the comment while on the Angie Martinez radio show in the US.

When the deejay explained to 50 Cent that Gaga had merely told West that he should be aware that she had a large gay fanbase, the rapper retorted:

“What did Kanye say: ‘me, too?'”

He went on to add: “Kanye’s cool with the gay folk. I have nothing against them, but he’s cool with them. He goes and drops his video off to them… Ellen. Ellen DeGeneres. He went there to premiere his video. He’s conscious of the gay community and wants them to buy his CD.”

50 Cent has since issued a statement on his website saying that his comments were taken out of context.

“When I referred to the Lady Gaga tour as ‘the gay tour,’ I was basically repeating what I thought she had referred to the tour in the past.

“It was not my intention to offend anyone. I don’t have a problem with anyone’s lifestyle and have no issue with Lady Gaga. She makes great music.”

Meanwhile it has since been announced by promoters Live Nation that the Fame Kills Tour has been cancelled. Tickets went on sale just a week ago.

No official reason was given for the cancellation but, according to gossip blogger Perez Hilton, Gaga’s choreographer, Laurieann Gibson, has blamed “creative differences”. She apparently also said that Gaga will still tour, but without West.

There have been ongoing rumours that a cancellation of the tour was in the offing following West’s controversial interruption of singer Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the recent MTV Video Music Awards.
