MISS BRAZIL GAY ‘DE-WIGGED’

The moment of the attack.

Things didn’t quite go according to plan at this year’s Miss Brazil Gay pageant, which features drag performers competing for the title.

Usually the cat-fighting at these events is reserved for behind the scenes, but this time round it was all captured on camera.

Shortly after being crowned Miss Brazil Gay 2009, an emotional Ava Simões was interviewed by a television crew. Unexpectedly, a grim-faced competitor rushed up behind her and snatched the winner’s wig and crown away, running back into the stage area.

A shocked Simões, who represented the state of Espírito Santo, was rushed away from the camera, but then returned later with her wig back in place to finish the interview. The attacker has not been publicly identified.

“Wig or no wig, I’m still Miss Brazil Gay 2009,” said a defiant and beaming Simões.

The Miss Brazil Gay pageant was launched in 1977.
