PRESIDENT APOLOGISES FOR CHICKEN GAFFE

Bolivian president Evo Morales has clarified reports that he claimed that eating mass produced chicken causes homosexuality.

According to the president’s spokesperson, Iván Canelas, Morales has written a letter to Spain’s National Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Transsexuals and Bisexuals explaining his position.

“Under no way did it ever cross the mind of President Morales to attack the rights of homosexuals,” Canelas told the La Paz press corps.

He added that the letter confirmed that “we respect their sexual freedom and ratify our respect for what is established in the Bolivian Constitution.”

The Spanish gay rights group had criticised Morales in a statement after it was reported that he had said in a speech: “The chicken we eat is loaded with female hormones. So, when men eat it, they tend to deviate from their manhood.”

Canales explained the misunderstanding: “You well know that sometimes things said in a speech are exaggerated or interpreted as wanted.”
