A gay couple from Vancouver, Canada, is celebrating after winning a record 50 million Canadian dollars (about R 340 million) in a lottery draw.

“It hasn’t really sunk in,” admitted pastry chef Kurt Blanchette-Ebert, 63, who along with Claude Blanchette-Ebert, 52, won the massive prize.

“We have faced some tough financial times and just recently got back on our feet, so this incredible win is really icing on the cake for us.”

“We’re celebrating our 30-year anniversary together next month,” added Claude. “I have a feeling this one will be extra special.”

Claude, an upholsterer, has joined Kurt in quitting his job, and the pair is planning to take some time to decide what to do with their winnings.

“We are not extravagant, but we need new cars and we’ll probably buy a new house,” said Kurt. “But after that…we’ll just take it day-by-day.”
