MR GAY SOUTH AFRICA WANTS YOU!

Advertorial

The new team behind the annual Mr Gay South Africa (Mr GSA) competition have announced that entries are now open for this year’s contest, with a R50,000 cash prize at stake.

The event underwent a change of ownership and directorship when directors Coenie Kukkuk, John-Louis O’ Niel and Karen Sephton announced in December last year that they were stepping down.

New owners Emil Faber and Ricus Wessels ヨ best known as the former owners of Melon restaurant in Johannesburg ヨ took over the reins with the intention of making the event more socially relevant.

According to Charl van den Berg, Media and Operations for Mr GSA (and a former Mr GSA and Mr Gay World himself), they aim “to appeal to a broader spectrum of the community, to take the competition to greater heights and to add to a brand that has already established itself in the gay community”.

The new organisers said that entries are now open until the end of July so as to give potential candidates enough time to get their entries in.

Regional finals will take place nationwide in August, right after the Mr Gay World event in Antwerp, Belgium.

Prizes for Mr GSA this year include R50,000 cash and a trip to the Mr Gay World 2014 competition. Plus, Tuned In Publicity will offer a R60 000 public relations campaign for the period of 12 months from when the winner is announced to when he hands over his crown to his successor. This will involve maximising his exposure through the media and other channels.

“Currently Mr GSA Steve Williams and the Mr GSA team are hard at work in preparing for the Mr Gay World 2013 competition, with the hopes of bringing the coveted title back to SA…where it belongs!” said Van den Berg.

Since Mr GSA was launched in 2008 it has produced two Mr Gay World winners (Charl van den Berg, 2010 and Francois Nel, 2011) and one runner-up (Lance Weyer, 2012).

Van den Berg revealed that the organisers also hope to have the opportunity to host Mr Gay World for a second time in South Africa in the near future following the success of the 2012 Johannesburg event.

Potential Mr GSA entrants can go to www.mrgsa.co.za to get an entry form. They should then mail it back to either Ricus Wessels at ricus@mrgsa.co.za or Charl van den Berg at charl@mrgsa.co.za.

Also, keep a look out for Mr GSA scouts who will be in and around your city scouting for potential contestants.
