OUTRAGE OVER RINGING BALLS

Advertorial

anti_gay_group_campaigns_against_ringing_balls_advertAnti-gay pressure group One Million Moms is outraged about a humorous television advert for an American retailer featuring men ringing in the holiday season with their privates.

The advert for Kmart depicts a group of well rehearsed men wearing boxers shaking their privates in tune to Jingle Bells.

The ever-dour One Million Moms, however, is less than pleased. It said that the commercial “is not only offensive” and “filth” but “a deliberate decision to produce controversial advertisements instead of wholesome ones”.

The group went on to rant: “The commercial focuses on several men wearing Joe Boxer underwear thrusting in a sexualised way to the tune of Jingle Bells. They start gyrating and shaking themselves instead of the hand bells, intending to make their ‘bells’ ring in song – which is highly inappropriate.”

It said that the avert was “ridiculous” and “disgusting” and urged parents and consumers to e-mail Kmart to pull the ad immediately.

The fundamentalist Christian organisation is an offshoot of the American Family Association, which lobbies against the recognition of same-sex marriage.

One Million Moms is known for its vocal campaigns against media that support LGBT equality.

It’s previously called for boycotts against retailer J. C. Penney for hiring Ellen Degeneres as its spokesperson, against Archie comics for including a gay character, and against the Jennifer Lopez produced lesbian family TV drama, The Fosters.
