LISTEN: TOYA DELAZY’S NEW SINGLE, ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM
Following the phenomenal success of her hit début album, singer-songwriter Toya Delazy has announced the release of her brand new album.
Titled Ascension, the collection of new music will be released on 28 October. The album’s lead single, Forbidden Fruit, premièred on 5FM’s The Fresh Drive on Monday.
The song grew from a production collaboration with industry stalwarts Craig Massiv & Troydon Murisan – known as Loskop.
“You love who you love. This life has no rules, there is no instruction manual, we don’t live to find ourselves, we live to create ourselves,” said Toya about the track’s theme. (Listen to Forbidden Fruit below.)
Ascension sees Toya collaborate with both local and international producers, including Massiv, Murisan, Shane Cooper and Ross Jack, along with US based Fresco Kane and Jazziel Sommers. Rapper Cassper Nyovest also features on the anthemic track My City, earmarked to be the album’s second single.
“I share my second offering intertwined with big bass drops and a fusion of sounds I call J.E.H.P (jazz, electro, hip and pop),” said Toya about the album.
“If you are ready to discover, if you are ready to listen, if you are ready to create, you are definitely ready to ascend! Ascension: It’s is about rising as a person, as a nation, as humanity, through knowing, growing the inner wealth, and becoming,” she added.
The 24-year-old, openly lesbian star first made a splash back at the end of 2011 and went on to release her first album Due Drop. She won three 2013 South African Music Awards and scored a 2013 BET Nomination for Best International Act (Africa).
