The late Gift (Disebo) Makau

The trial of the man accused of murdering lesbian Disebo “Gift” Makau in August in Ventersdorp, in the North West province, has been postponed to December.

Pule Botlhokwane, 24, has been charged with the horror attack in which Makau was raped and strangled to death with a wire and had a running hosepipe shoved down her throat.

It’s believed that the 24-year-old openly lesbian woman was killed because of her sexual orientation.

Iranti-Org reported that Botlhokwane’s next court hearing has been scheduled for December 8, when the matter is expected to be moved to the high court.

The Commission of Gender Equality and activists attended Monday’s hearing at the Ventersdorp Magistrate’s Court.

Iranti-Org said that the police investigation is still under-way and that DNA and post-mortem results were set to be received by the court by the end of this week.

Matshidiso Botlhokwane, Botlhokwane’s mother, has told the media that her son admitted to her that he had murdered the young woman.
