Watch: Conchita Wurst’s brilliant new music video
Austrian bearded drag star Conchita Wurst has released her first music video since winning the Eurovision Song Contest.
The new song, called Heroes, features a black and white video clip that’s already received acclaim for its striking and lyrical imagery.
Wurst, performed by 25-year-old gay Austrian man Thomas Neuwirth, won the Eurovision Song Contest in May and became an international phenomenon.
She was slammed by outraged homophobic Russian politicians as representing “the end of Europe.”
It’s been suggested that one of the men who appears in the video resembles Russia’s homophobic president, Vladimir Putin.
Putin has accused Wurst of flaunting her non-conforming gender appearance and sexuality.
Earlier this month, the singer was praised by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for her efforts in promoting LGBT equality.
