Watch: Gay coming out twins visit Ellen with their dad
The gay twins who came out to their father in an emotional YouTube video that went viral have spoken to Ellen DeGeneres about their “scariest moment” ever.
Fighting back tears, Austin and Aaron Rhodes told their dad over the phone earlier this month that they are gay, while filming the conversation. The video has since been viewed more than 14 million times.
Speaking to the talk show host this week, Austin said: “… it was the scariest moment of my life because in my mind I thought, ‘This could be the last time that we have a normal phone call like this if he takes it bad.'”
The boys’ father also appeared on the show and revealed what it was like being on the other side of the phone.
“When they called I knew they were crying and something was wrong. As a father you just feel it…” he said.
“When they told me, I just felt as though, the only thing came through me was ‘I love you both. I love you both unconditionally. You’re my children. I can’t undo being your father and I don’t want to…’ I really feel like now there’s a weight off both our sides. Now I feel like we can talk about anything. I was very proud of my boys.”
Ellen called him an “amazing father”, adding, “I can’t tell you how amazing it is for you to just love them and accept them.”
