Watch: Hillary Clinton campaign launch features gay couple

Hillary_Clinton_campaign_launch_video_gay_coupleA gay couple has been featured in the long-awaited campaign video announcing Hillary Clinton’s run for the US presidency in 2016.

The video, titled Getting Started, depicts a group of diverse Americans speaking about their plans for the future.

Included are Jared Milrad and Nate Johnson, who are seen walking down the street hand in hand as Milrad talks about tying the knot.

“I’m getting married this summer, to someone I really care about,” Milrad, a lawyer, says in the video.

Clinton later announces that, “Everyday Americans need a champion, and I want to be that champion. So I’m hitting the road to earn your vote.”

Clinton came out in support of same-sex marriage in 2013.

According to the Human Rights campaign, the ad marks the first time same-sex couples and marriage equality have been featured in a US presidential campaign launch.

Milrad told AFP that he and his partner are happy to be part of Clinton’s video. “It shows how far we’ve come,” he said, adding, “It’s a sea change in progress that we see in our country.”

The couple revealed that they plan to invite Clinton to their wedding.
