BRIAN NTULI – 20 yrs old – from Durban

I would like to change the mentality that straight people have towards gay men; the mentality that all gay people do not belong to this world and that they were never meant to exist. If I would perhaps become Mr GSA, I would be a very good representative who will bridge the gap between straight and gay men and also represent the LGBTI community.

DANNYBOY MLAMBO – 26 yrs old – from Pretoria

Mr Pink Loerie MardiGras 2013 – 1st runner up. With rights come responsibilities. When I become Mr GSA, it will give me the platform to become an ambassador for the LGBTI community, promoting self-love, validation and contentment (positive physical, spiritual mental and sexual living). I will also serve as a bright example of what it is to be an ALL-South African, strong-willed, young and gifted gay man with firm beliefs in success, humanity, education and respect for our diverse nation. This will also be in memory of a late loved one. I want to complete what he started in his honour.

GERHARD MALAN – 27 yrs old – from Klerksdorp

I feel we must have a stronger and louder voice for victims of corrective rape.

GORDON GRIEVE – 25 yrs old – from Sandton

Face of Babylon 2011 (finalist) / Face of Catwalk 2007 (top 15). I want to be the voice of reason in the community. To bring us all together. To be the one who will allow us to stop the fighting against and judging of each other and to let everyone stand tall and proud together as a community, and say: “This is who we are. One community, one vision and one goal. Acceptance for all!”

HELGARD MARAIS – 38 yrs old – from Johannesburg

In today’s world we are bombarded daily with negative messages, influences, unjust treatment and judgement for our LGBTI youth / community. I would like to contribute towards changing this by being a positive gay role-model for the LGBTI community.

IGOR SCHEURKOGEL – 32 yrs old – from Bloemfontein

I’m an aspiring politician and if all goes well next year I will be an elected public representative. We have so many gay public representatives in government that do not stand up for the rights of gay people. And by gay rights I mean to be accepted as a person, just the way you are. By becoming Mr. Gay South Africa I will be given the opportunity to make our South African society aware that being gay doesn’t disable you, and that you are just the same as any other person.

JUSTIN WELGEMOED – 27 yrs old – from Durban

I want to educate the country and bring a further, if not a full, understanding of what it is and what it means to be homosexual. An understanding that love is love and love has no boundaries.

PIERRE BUCKLEY – 26 yrs old – from Pietermaritzburg

Mr Pietermaritzburg 2013 (winner). I am socially minded due to my upbringing, background and experiences. I am a firm believer that the combination of one’s life experiences together with strong ambitions to achieve a meaningful impact creates exceptional leaders.

WERNER DE WAAL – 26 yrs old – from Cape Town

We are all different and unique in our own way. Nobody fits into a specific box and I feel it my duty to let people know that we were all created equal by leading in example. We all need to be reminded that although the lamps are different, the light is the same!

WERNER EARLE – 22 yrs old – from Bloemfontein

I would like to show my support for the LGBT community by being a representative and spokesperson for the community. In light of recent international events, it has come to my attention that the acceptance of gay rights has not yet reached its full and desired potential and that the community is still under pressure as a minority group.
