LEGENDS NIGHTCLUB CLOSES
Legends nightclub in Pretoria has announced that it has closed its doors after five and half years with immediate effect, marking the end of a clubbing era.
“Our lease ends today, 31 May 2010, and the time is right to close our doors,” said owner Fulvio De Stefanis.
Legends had seen a decrease in club-goer numbers over the last few months, but unfavourable terms by new landlords during lease negotiations were reportedly the final straw.
“Legends has been an incredible journey and it seems like only yesterday that we opened our doors in the Pretoria CBD,” said De Stefanis.
The club moved to new locations twice thereafter; to the Capitol Theatre and then finally to its most recent home in Brooklyn.
Legends not only offered the usual bars and dance floors, it also presented numerous live performers over the years including Elsabe Zietsman, EDEN, Stefan Ludik, Andre Swartz and Lizz Meirring. It hosted performances by the Cape Town based drag duo Mince this past weekend.
“We will always cherish this last special weekend and the friends who came to say good bye,” added De Stefanis.
In addition to twice winning best float in the annual Joburg Pride parade Legends was also voted best gay club in South Africa by Mambaonline.com site visitors in 2008 and 2009.
THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TREAT UR PATRONS LIKE SHIT. enuff said
so sad.. What a loss…it was almost like a home for some… where will i go now? Babylon? Scopia? or for some african delight Europa? EISH!!
Shame. I have never been to ther club in Brooklyn but it is sad sorry for the one who made such a remark of how bad you have been to your clients may if it is true you need to learn something but I think it is really sad to see guy venue go dead and gone. The gay people is losing out on a lot. Pretoria is losing a lot where does the people go to just to see gay place closing down is bad we need to support each other I am not a club go person but it is so sad we need to stand together.
To Fulvio for you it id a good thing to get out when you can because I have experience that the gay people of pretoria not supporting the places as i thought they would I have seen that the people just do not go out they do not even go to the bars i have been to Raspuntim a few time as well as Detour and I was wondering how do the owners of these places survive with only 10 people if they lucky in the bar that night it I do not now how you people really survive this with the community just disappearing I said the other night where are the gay people of pretoria going it is just so strange
Another one bites the dust…. One by one they fall… or rather they decide they filled their pockets from the gay community. As usual someone else will start a club soon looking for the opportunity to milk (no pun intended) the gay community! The circle keeps on going…..
Ag Shame! You get what you deserve!. I went there a few times with my partner who was spoken to quite rudely. We never went back again. Most of us in our late thirties and upwards prefer to spend time entertaining other gay guys and gals at home, at a braai, eating out or on camping weekends. It is so much more healthy and satisfying than club and bar hopping.
Good riddance. For a club that offered free easter eggs for their Easter party, I’m so glad this place has finally packed up. It’s been long overdue. Lordy lord!
Thanks and Cheers… Thanks Fulvio for some really great times there in Ptown… I and a couple of friends ventured North ever so often and truly had fun! Im sure you got something else up your sleeve… So I for one will be waiting to see… What they dont remember is KRAVE, BITCH, MOTHER, RAINBOW, the magazine and LEGENDS…

SHAME. Well. I have read all the comments on Legends and it just seems so true that the gay people in SA who has places where our people can go you find that we are being taken for rides. I mean we are the people that support you what is going on with these clud and bar owners, because we have pink money does not means you can take us for all we have. I must say I rather spend tiome with friends at home or go camping and eat out than spend my money on people who behave Like you owe them something .
