Gibson in a 2006 mug shot.
In the wake of the release of tapes of Mel Gibson’s racist and misogynist rants, the actor’s previous comments confirm that he’s also a homophobe.
Gibson (54), who is being investigated for domestic violence, has been exposed in audio tapes in which he admits to hitting his Russian girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.
In a tape released by RadarOnline.com, an out of control Gibson tells her “you deserved it”, after Grigorieva is heard confronting him about hitting her and breaking her teeth.
Gibson is also heard making death threats. “You need a f*cking bat in the side of the head.” he says to Grigorieva. He later screams: “Threaten ya? I’ll put you in a f *ckin rose garden you c*nt!”
The Academy Award wining director and actor has also been recorded in an earlier tape using ‘the N-word’ and previously admitted making anti-Semitic slurs when he was arrested for drunken driving in 2006.
The website Gawker has now posted past comments by the Braveheart star in which he made his feelings about gays clear.
“They take it up the ass. [laughs, stands up, bends over, points to anus] This is only for taking a shit,” he told Spanish newspaper El Pais in 1991.
He later added: “With this look, who’s going to think I’m gay? I don’t lend myself to that type of confusion. Do I look like a homosexual? Do I talk like them? Do I move like them?”
In 1995, he responded to Playboy about calls for him to apologise to LGBT people for his comments by saying, “I’ll apologise when hell freezes over. They can fuck off,” but in 1999 he said that he had been drinking at the time and shouldn’t have said what he did.
Gibson is not only facing criminal charges for the abuse of Grigorieva but could also be charged for making death threats against her. Some have questioned if his career can survive this latest scandal.
