BETTE MIDLER BLASTS GAGA OVER MERMAID
It’s the battle of the gay icons! Bette Midler has slammed Lady Gaga for stealing her famous mermaid in a wheelchair act in a recent Sydney concert.
Gaga appeared on stage in a wheelchair to sing the song You and I, drawing criticism from differently-abled activists in Australia.
Midler (65) was also not impressed, taking to Twitter on Saturday to vent her anger.
“I’m not sure @ladygaga knows that I’ve performed my mermaid in a wheelchair for millions of people – and many of them are still alive,” she tweeted.
She continued later: “Dear @ladygaga if you think a mermaid in a wheelchair seems familiar – it’s because it is! You can see it on youtube 24/7 – with ME performing it.”
On Sunday, Midler, once again, tweeted: “Dear @ladygaga I’ve been doing singing mermaid in a wheelchair since 1980 – You can keep the meat dress and the firecracker tits – mermaid’s mine.”
Gaga (25), who has often been accused of “stealing” from other artists, spoke about the fracas on the Billy Bush radio show and insisted that she had not been aware that Midler had performed as a mermaid in a wheelchair.
“You know, I had no idea that she did that. I wanted to do the mermaid in that show and I figured well I’ll just put myself in a wheelchair so I can get around. You know, maybe we’re just cut from the same cloth,” she said with a laugh.
“I’m a huge Bette Midler fan and I’m happy now I guess I was able to tribute her,” she added.
Midler has since taken a conciliatory stance. “@ladygaga, let’s drink this over at the Emmy’s in September. Fabulous mermaids can coexist!”, she tweeted on Monday.

Gaga vs The Divine Ms M. Not sure if anyone feels the way I do: but Lady Gaga is overrated and sycophantic. She cannot sing and is boring. She goes out of her way to court “certain” communities. Then makes a ballyhoo about it! Milking it for all it’s worth and then some! Was there ever a time that Bette Midler did this? Or Madonna? Or Barbra Streisand? They just do what they do and connect at the same time. Na!!! Didn’t think so!!! I’m proud to say that I have extensive Madonna, Bette and Barbra collections! Gaga?? Nada!!!!Zilch!!!!!
Gaga is a work of art… She brings art & fashion and may other forms of art like dancing together and gives us something worth listening to. Listen to her latest album… all the songs actually means something and is not all about soppy love that only exists in dreams. She is truly artistic in all her ways….. Equality actually means something to her to the point that she will act and do something about it.
Gay people who criticise her should be ashamed….

Don’t believe it. I don’t believe that Gaga didn’t know about Bette’s mermaid act! She says she’s a fan, plus she’s in showbiz and know all about the gay world and didn’t know about it? Sounds like a load of bull to me!
