It has been reported that a gay teen who was abused and tortured by neo-Nazis in Russia has died.
According to Spectrum Human Rights Alliance, the young man “tragically died as a result of numerous tortures” in the Sverdlovsk region. It is not clear what exactly caused his death.
The Uzbek teen, as seen on his knees in the accompanying picture, was a victim of the Neo Nazi group ‘Occupy Pedofilyaj’ which has been targeting gay people.
A report claims that the young man was beaten with a bat, cut with a knife, stained with paint and had his anus torn.
It is believed that the group sets up dates with gay victims through fake profiles on VK.com, a Russian social media website.
When the target arrives at the meeting place, he is attacked by the group which proceeds to humiliate and abuse the hapless victim.
The attackers often take photos and video clips of the abuse and proudly distribute them on the internet and to the victims’ families, apparently leading some to suicide.
According to the Alliance, the authorities have not taken any action against the gang despite receiving reports from a Dr. Valentin Degtyarev, who has been documenting the abuse.
“Dr. Degtyarev’s numerous written complains to the authorities only resulted in his own persecution and threats directed at him and his 72 year old mother,” said the Alliance.
The authorities have also reportedly stated that they see nothing illegal taking place in the pictures and video footage and have said that the neo-Nazi group “is fighting the sins of the society”.
The incidents come in the wake of growing homophobia in Russia, bolstered by laws and politicians targeting the gay and lesbian community.
