Actor, filmmaker and artist James Franco says in a new interview that he’s not surprised that people think he’s gay and that he wishes he actually was.

The star told The Daily Beast that one of the biggest misconceptions people had about him is that he is gay.

His sexuality was the butt of most of the jokes during the recent Comedy Central Roast of James Franco special.

Franco said, however, that he isn’t annoyed in the least at being made fun of when it comes to his sexuality.

“If that’s what they were going to make fun of me for, I was like, ‘Great! Bring on the gay jokes!’ because these aren’t insults at all.

“I don’t even care if people think I’m gay, so it was like, ‘Awesome!’ I mean, I wish I was … I wish I was gay,” he said.

Franco went to comment: “My relationship with my public image over the past four or five years has just become weirder and weirder, because I look at it and it’s me, and it’s not me, so if other people want to use that for their own purposes or needs, I’m fine with it.”

Franco is best known for his roles (some of which have included gay characters) in films such as Spiderman, Milk, Howl and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

He’s also embarked on unconventional and edgy personal projects, many of which have gay themes at their core.

The 35-year-old Academy Award nominated actor produced the film Interior. Leather Bar, which explores gay cruising. in the film Broken Tower, he simulated oral sex on a prosthetic penis.

Franco joked in an interview that he was “a natural” at deepthroating and added, “If I’d had the guts, it woulda been real”.
