Stephen Fry to marry ‘toy boy’
Stephen Fry, the 57-year-old gay British actor, presenter, author and activist, is planning to marry his 27-year-old boyfriend.
According to reports, he is engaged to comedian and writer Elliott Spencer, despite a significant 30-year age difference.
The couple made a formal application to marry at a register office in Dereham, Norfolk in December.
Fry confirmed the news about his impending nuptials on Twitter, writing: “Oh. It looks as though a certain cat is out of a certain bag. I’m very very happy of course but had hoped for a private wedding. Fat chance!”
He later tweeted: “Thank you all SO much for your kind congratulations. Deeply touched xxx”
Fry’s personal assistant told the BBC: “Stephen Fry is very happy and proud to say that he has set the wheels in motion for a wedding sometime in the future but no date has been set due to a busy work schedule.”
Fry was previously in a 15-year relationship with Daniel Cohen, which came to an end in 2010. He has often spoken about his struggle with loneliness, drugs and depression.
Fry is known for his roles in numerous films and TV series including Blackadder, V for Vendetta and The Hobbit, and as host of the comedy quiz show QI. He has over eight million followers on Twitter.
There is hope for me, I am not yet 57. Good luck to Fry, he a great entertainer and intellect.
