Nelson Mandela Bay to mark 2015 Pride “Out Loud”
Port Elizabeth is marking the fifth annual Nelson Mandela Bay Pride on Saturday 28 November, under the theme of “Out Loud.”
The event takes place at The Boardwalk Lawns and will include a parade along the beachfront, live music and entertainment, and a parade after party.
The proceedings start at 1pm with music and performances at the Boardwalk Lawns, with the parade kicking off at 4.30pm.
The after-parade celebrations, featuring Gauteng club Babylon’s resident DJs Solly P and Goldenboy on the decks, will run at the venue until 10pm.
Entry is R50 (purchase at the gates) with R150 for VIP access (purchase from The Boardwalk Hotel). A portion of the proceedings will go towards the MTR Children’s Haven.
Nelson Mandela Bay Pride will include special guests Mr Gay SA 2015, Craig Maggs, and Mr Mardi Gras 2015/Mr Pretoria Pride, Steph Jansen Van Vuuren.
Club Aqua (Cnr Prince Alfred and York Rd, North End) will host the Pride After Party from 9pm, which will offer four bars, two dance floors, nine DJs, a retro chilling area, a new renovated deck, and drinks specials.
According to the Nelson Mandela Bay Pride website, the event is “dedicated to education, to the commemoration of LGBT+ heritage and to the celebration of LGBT+ culture and liberation.”
The organisers plan to once again fly Africa’s biggest rainbow flag (12 meters by 8 meters) on the weekend at Donkin Reserve, overlooking the bay and its harbour.
