Thousands took part in the annual Cape Town Pride 2019 parade and mardi gras on Saturday 2 March to celebrate sexual and gender diversity and to call for full equality for all.
Under this year’s theme of “I am me”, around 3,000 people gathered at the parade’s starting point and marched through the streets of Cape Town to the Reddam Field Mardi Gras venue.
The celebratory procession – one of Africa’s largest – was led by a pipe band and a cavalcade of motorbikes, and was greeted with enthusiasm by motorists and passersby. (Read our full report here.)
