Actor Jonathan Groff has spoken about his gay sex scenes in the anticipated new American television series Looking.

The show is a comedy-drama about a group of gay friends living in San Francisco and is set to premiere in the US in January.

Groff – who is openly gay – plays Patrick, a gay video-game developer, in the HBO series.

When asked by OUT magazine about the sex scenes in Looking, Groff said that “what we’re trying to display is a reality of gay sex as opposed to the salaciousness of gay sex”.

He explained: “We’re trying just to keep it real—which means humour. Some of our sex scenes are very emotional and very beautiful. Some of our sex scenes are awkward. We’re trying to get as close to reality as we possibly can.

“Hopefully, when people watch it, you’ll think, Oh, I’ve had that exact experience. I know what it feels like to be intimate with someone in that way.”

The sexy star certainly knows something about saucy scenes. He appeared fully naked in the drama Twelve Thirty (feel free to Google image search to your heart’s content!).

Groff came out last year and briefly dated fellow actor Zachary Quinto (Star Trek, American Horror Story).

The 28-year-old Groff, who is best known as a stage actor and singer, will also soon appear in the television film adaptation of the acclaimed gay-themed Larry Kramer play The Normal Heart.
