It’s been revealed that Oscar-winning actress and director Jodie Foster has married her girlfriend.

According to E! News’ Marc Malkin, Foster, 51, and photographer and actress Alexandra Hedison, 44, tied the knot over the weekend.

A representative for the Elysium star confirmed the news. The couple have been dating for just less than a year.

Hedison appeared in the lesbian drama The L Word as the character of Dylan Moreland and previously dated Ellen DeGeneres.

While Foster, who began her career as a child, has never stated in an interview that she is lesbian she has also never hidden her same-sex relationships.

At last year’s Oscars, in what was dubbed her coming out, Foster thanked her former partner of 20 years, Cydney Bernard, with whom she had two sons; calling her “one of the deepest loves of my life, my heroic co-parent, my ex-partner in love.”

A number of critics, however, slammed the actress for not using the words gay or lesbian in her Cecil B. DeMille Award acceptance speech and for being disdainful of celebrities who come out publicly.

Foster said that she valued her “privacy above all else” and commented that now “every celebrity is expected to honour the details of their private life with a press conference, a fragrance and a prime-time reality show… No, I’m sorry, that’s just not me. It never was and it never will be.”
