Well-known anti-gay American televangelist Pat Robertson has once again displayed his ignorance on television.

The 84-year-old was asked by a viewer of the Christian Broadcasting Network’s 700 Club programme about his stance on her church not allowing members to date.

“Most the people in church are frustrated because we’re getting older and no one is getting married,” she said in a letter to the show.

Robertson responded that the policy was ridiculous as it would lead to the congregation dying out, a fate that also awaits gay people.

“You know, those who are homosexual will die out because they don’t reproduce,” he stated.

“You know, you have to have heterosexual sex to reproduce. Same thing with that church. It’s doomed. It’s going to die out because it’s the most nonsensical thing I’ve heard in a long time.”

Robertson didn’t seem to grasp the reality that most gay people come from heterosexual parents and, despite millions of years of evolution, have still not “died out.”

In October, Robertson was ridiculed around the world for his statement on the same show warning viewers that they could “catch Aids” from towels.

“You might get AIDS in Kenya, people have AIDS, you’ve got to be careful,” he said at the time, adding, “I mean, the towels could have AIDS.”
