Two foreign women have been sentenced to a month’s imprisonment for ‘indecent acts’ on a beach in Dubai.
The women, a 30 year old Lebanese national and 36 year old Bulgarian, were jailed after a court of appeal upheld the sentence imposed by a lower court.
The 7Days newspaper reported that the couple had been charged with kissing, fondling and other ‘indecent acts’ on the Al Mamzar beach.
The women will be deported to their respective countries after they have served their sentence.
In July, police officials announced that it had created an undercover unit which would focus on tackling gay and “indecent activities” on local beaches.
Later that month it was reported that between 17 and 40 foreign men had been arrested for being gay and wearing women’s clothing.
