SABC presenter says homosexuality is a problem and abnormal
An SABC sports presenter has revealed his true colours with a series of homophobic tweets, leading to calls for the broadcaster to take him to task.
Coudjoe Amankwaa, a sports analyst, researcher and scriptwriter at the SABC, started the furore on Sunday when he tweeted: “Is gay a naturally born condition or a choice?”
The question led to a flurry of replies, with some questioning the tweet’s appropriateness and criticising his description of homosexuality as a “condition.”
#SaluteOrangeArmy (@Mntungwa99) commented, “if u say it’s a choice, u mean u are also choosing to be straight. Don’t be stupid man. It’s 2015,” while Sikho (@Sikho_N) asked, “Did you choose to be black? Would you choose to be black seeing how oppressed blacks are? Why would gays choose oppression?”
About an hour later, Amankwaa responded to the outrage by stating: “The mere fact that you cannot respond rationally on the issues of gayism shows that it’s a problem and abnormality.”
CliffCentral presenter Brent Lindeque responded: “Utterly disgusted with @coudjoeamankwaa & his homophobic derogatory comments. Hope @SABCNewsOnline will take action.”
Lindeque went on to argue that the SABC could not ignore Amankwaa’s statements because “he works for them & is using a public platform to openly discriminate against fellow South Africans…”
Amankwaa previously tweeted on the subject of gay people just a day earlier.
On the 4th of April he wrote, “What is this trend among some gay guys, who go for hot chicks and ask their hands in marriages, knowing they fire blanks all day, all time 24/7” and, “Some gay guys are weird! Vele…..lol.”
Amankwaa likely realised that his “abnormality” comment could have far reaching consequences and later deleted it, although screengrabs were taken of the disturbing remark.
What do you think: Should the SABC discipline Amankwaa, or are his comments ultimately a private matter unconnected to his job?
Update: 9 April 2015 – The SABC and Coudjoe Amankwaa have issued a statement apologising for the remarks and claiming that the tweets were posted by someone else without his permission. Read more here.

Fire his ass
He is not just an employee, he is front of house! Fire him. No more talking.
Jah neh…
Who in their right mind would choose to be ill treated, murdered, abused, discriminated??? Being gay IS NOT A CHOICE.
There are a lot of gays who work for the SABC and seeing that one of them “hates” us so much, they sure are supposed to complain because as “private” as the tweet could seem, his name is attached to the SABC AND THEY MUST ACT UP ON THIS.
Because he is a public presenter, it is expected of him to act in a way and manner that advance positively of his employer’s image. He in this case put his employer’s name into disrepute as his views might be seen as that of Sabc even though Sabc will distance itself from it.
I don’t think this is worthy of debate. This man must be fired! He is a public persona who spreads a disgusting message inspired by discrimination and hate. As an aside, I really think that if anyone enters the country they should read, understand and align themselves to our Constitution, it’s objects and ethos. We have enough of our own idiots to deal with.
I say he take the very next plane out of this country back to wherever he is from, together with his ignorant and homophobic comments. Why is he that bothered by gay people? The SABC shouldnt let this one slide
Boycott SABC simple. Not much of real value there anyhow except maybe RSG
Now we have to accept foreigners in our country who are homophobics…no return home guys
He’s obviously ignorant and full of discrimination. Fire his ass and fast
It is not expected that a man of that position who is talking to the world because of his job can make such statements that are discriminatory I nature can be left alone, we need to make a follow up. We all know that in South Africa we have a lot of ignorance especially from people who are in influential position including him whereby if they say something the public act immediately. He must do him a favour and read chapter 2 of our constitution the bill of right. I take note that is not a South African by birth but he is also protected hence our constitution states that South Africa belongs to all who leaves in it. His verbal abusive statement about gay being a choice or a condition is very intimidating not only to the gay community but to the Society at large. Enough of him leave SABC and country. He is not constructing but disrupting SA
He must go back to country its 2015 gay people have rughts as straight people depot this bustard to his country we can’t afford to be taken backward
He should be fired period. We don’t accept such people in our country.
His BIG NOSE is abnormal
From what i read ….i ddnt get anythng wrong the guy is tryng to understand the whole issue of homosexual… Bt pple instead of answering the question ,,u are busy attackng the guy ‘u cant dig a hole to fill another hole” make Mr Amangwa understand hw u gays operate….
He must go to his country ,,,is that gonna solve the matter at hand bcoz honestly speakng this issue was legalised of same sex marriages ..the question nw is did the community accept them???????
Oh what is it with these amoebas? Detracting from his Neanderthal looks I suppose.
