Canada’s Prime Minister will be first to march in Pride parade
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to make history when he becomes the first head of a nation to march in a Pride parade while in office.
Trudeau, 44, has previously taken part in Toronto Pride but that was before he assumed the position of prime minister in November last year.
On Monday, he tweeted: “Very much look forward to being there again, this time as PM.”
Organisers said they were “proud” to host the prime minister and posted a promotional image featuring Trudeau holding his hands in the shape of a heart.
The leader has been dubbed the “world’s hottest prime minister” and is a supporter of the LGBT community.
“[It’s] big news in Canada but big news around the world,” Pride Toronto’s Executive Director, Mathieu Chantelois, told BuzzFeed Canada. “Not only because he is probably the sexiest politician alive but also because there has never been a leader of a country to walk in a parade, at least not that we know of.”
Although he’s Catholic, Trudeau supports marriage equality and the right to abortion. He is married to Sophie Grégoire and the couple have three children.
